The paintings and drawings of Marshall Arisman have been widely exhibited, both internationally and nationally. His work may be seen in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, at the National Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institution, as well as in many private and corporate collections.
Mr. Arisman’s original graphic essay, “Heaven Departed,” in which paintings and drawings describe the emotional and spiritual impact of nuclear war on society, was published in book form by Vision Publishers (Tokyo, 1988).
Chairman of the M.F.A. degree program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Marshall Arisman was the first American invited to exhibit his artwork in mainland China. His series, “Sacred Monkeys,” appeared at the Guang Dong Museum of Art in April 1999.
Mr. Arisman is the subject of a full-length documentary film directed by Tony Silver titled “Facing the Audience: The Arts of Marshall Arisman.” The film will have its premier showing at the 2002 Santa Barbara Film Festival.
Anthony Freda is a freelance illustrator trained at Pratt Institute and Tyler Art School in Rome, Italy whose work has been published in Time, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Esquire, and Business Week.
He is an award-winning painter and illustrator producing contemporary works of commercial art. Freda’s paintings have hung in galleries such as the Society of Illustrators and The Puck Building in New York City at Gen Art’s Summer Art Festival in 2002. As well, his work regularly appears in Communication Arts, American Illustration, and most recently in a book titled, “The 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide,” published by Luerzer’s Archive.
Other recent appearances of Freda’s work were in national ad campaigns by Converse, Mini Cooper, and Rockport Shoe Company. Freda served as a judge for The Society of Illustrator’s annual competition held in New York City in 2006, and his work has also appeared in several volumes of the society’s annual publication highlighting the best of American illustration.
Born in Philadelphia, Joseph Sweeney graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) in 1976. He received a Masters Degree in Art and Architecture from Penn State University in 1980.
A resident of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, he has taught or is teaching at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The University of the Arts, Wayne Art Center, Woodmere Art Museum, and Chester Springs Studio.
Primarily a landscape painter he was awarded Best of Show at “Images ’98” Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts July 1998 and Best of Show for The Philadelphia Water Color Club 98th Anniversary International Exhibition of Works on Paper. In 2002 he was awarded Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; Catherine Gibbons Granger Award for Landscape, Chester Springs, PA. Also in 2002 he was awarded Best in Show by The Philadelphia Sketch Club Works on Paper. And in 2010 took second place for the same show. In 2006 took part in the ART in Embassies Program, U.S. Dept. of State, in the Embassies of Port-of Spain,Trinidad and Kigali,Rwanda.
